At one point in your relationship, you and your partner most likely viewed each other as your best friend. As time goes on and the stress of everyday life begins to chip away at that friendship, whether it be due to financial, communication, addiction, or other issues, you and your partner begin to view one another as adversaries as opposed to allies. We can help reverse this course by focusing on the strengths of your relationship and by helping each partner better understand the other’s viewpoints. By using evidenced-based interventions to help you and your partner communicate better and see how certain actions are hurting one another, Holistic Healing Counselling can help you two get back to being each other's best friend so you can tackle life’s challenges as a team once again.
Relationships require constant communication to ensure all partners are receiving the care and attention they need to live a happy and fulfilling life. We often hear that a relationship is like a dance and both partners need to be involved and willing for harmony and rhythm to occur. When one partner begins to withdraw or shut down due to issues they are facing, this harmony and rhythm comes to a stop and conflict can arise. By engaging in couples counselling, we can work together to restore the communication that first brought you to be close to one another and can then build upon it so it becomes even better than it ever has been before.
Being engaged is an extremely exciting time in most people’s lives. But stress and anxiety can also enter the picture as you juggle the demands of planning your lives together. With our online premarital counselling, your therapist can help you and your partner navigate this exciting yet stressful time while also helping lay out the goals you have for your marriage. Premarital counselling will also help you and your partner fine-tune your communication skills, evaluate current and future relationship stressors, and give you and your partner tools to help your relationship thrive.
One of the hardest parts of couples counselling is finding a time that works best for both partners to attend. With our online couples counselling option, you and your partner can receive the care your relationship requires whenever and wherever you are in Alberta. This method of therapy is extremely helpful for couples who have children together or conflicting work schedules. By making our couples counselling as convenient and accessible as possible, Holistic Healing Counselling is able to break down the obstacles that often derail the important therapy relationships need. In-person counselling sessions are also available to those who prefer it.
Infidelity can shatter even the strongest of relationships. When that trust has been broken, there may not seem to be a way to salvage the relationship. But with thorough counselling and buy-in from both partners, there is a way to repair what has been broken. This type of counselling requires complete commitment from both people in the relationship and is designed to slowly rebuild the trust that has been lost. These sessions are extremely difficult for everyone involved but are designed to facilitate healing so the relationship can move forward from the trauma that’s been caused. Over time, the relationship can be repaired and both partners can receive the healing they need to make things work.
1. Initial assessment: Your therapist will meet with both partners to understand what is going on with their relationship and what needs to be addressed in order for healing to begin.
2. Individual assessments: Your therapist will then meet with each partner separately for one session to better understand them and their specific needs as they pertain to the relationship as a whole.
3. Couples counselling begins: Your therapist and the couple will then all come together for their first couples counselling session. During this session, your therapist will communicate their observations that were pulled from the first three assessments and we will begin working together to make the relationship work better. This involves some exploration to help you both arrive at insights as to what is going on in your relationship as well as some coaching on relationship pitfalls, improving communication skills, and other relational skills which help to make the relationship flow better.
Coming to a counsellor allows you to have a neutral third party who is trained in understanding people and relationships. This lets couples dig deeper into their relationship and better understand what relationship pitfalls they may be prone to, or which ones are currently causing them problems. Our neutrality allows our counsellors to reflect back on what they are seeing, allowing each person in the relationship to gain insights into their own accountability. We also work with our clients to establish relationship goals and a relational framework that will work for each of them.
Like individual counselling, you don't have to wait until you feel you can't take it anymore to come and see a counsellor. People go to relationship counselling when things are hard but they also come in for check-ups, premarital counselling, and when things just need a fine tune. Counselling can help things get better no matter what the circumstance may be.
According to the American Psychologist Association, couples counselling has a 75% success rate. Having a neutral third-party counsellor enter into the equation allows for both sides of the relationship to feel as though their voice is being heard, and their concerns are understood. This lets the couple better work through the issues they’re facing while the counsellor provides tools and strategies to overcome the obstacles confronting them.
