1. Book a free initial consultation: This 15 minute session allows you to meet with your therapist and explain what you would like to work on with her. During this brief initial introduction, you and your counsellor will see whether you're a good fit for one another and if the areas you would like help with are the root cause of your dissatisfaction, or merely a symptom of something deeper going on. You will also be able to ask your therapist any questions you may have about the therapeutic process, or bring up any other concerns.
2. Book an initial assessment: This initial 50-minute session allows your Edmonton-based therapist to walk you through the counselling process and outline what you can expect from her. You will then discuss the goals you hope to achieve through your counselling and what is really going on in your life. This first session is primarily used to get to know one another but many people report they feel better, lighter, and more positive because they finally have someone to listen to them and are moving forward with their issues by receiving the help they need for them.
3. Counselling sessions begin: Once the initial assessment takes place, we then move forward to counselling sessions. These sessions can occur on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis depending on your needs. During these sessions we will come up with interventions that are specific to the issues you’re facing. You will then try these evidenced-based interventions out in the time between sessions to see if they work for you and the problems you’re facing. In the sessions we will explore your past and early childhood experiences to see how they may be contributing to your current problems. If necessary, we will also process past traumatic experiences or memories together so we can better equip you to leave your past behind.
